ROTC Cadet Sues Sheriff’s Dept. for Injury During Chase

Washington – A college student is suing Pierce County Sheriff’s Department for injuries he suffered during a police chase in Tacoma. The student was crossing an intersection on his motorcycle when a vehicle being chased by police struck him. A member of the ROTC program at his school, the young man will no longer be able to be commissioned as a military officer because he was injured so badly he can no longer meet the physical requirements.
His personal injury suit claims that the vehicle that hit him would not have been speeding through the intersection if sheriff’s deputies had not been pursuing it. He is holding the sheriff’s department responsible for the deputies who violated the department’s policy that stipulates car chases must be ended if they become a danger to the public.
