A 95-year-old woman was killed in a car accident last Saturday morning. It marked the first deadly auto accident in Shawano since 2003.
The accident occurred at the intersection of S. Union St. and E. Maurer St. The woman was a passenger in a vehicle on the southbound road when her driver failed to heed the yield sign, resulting in a collision with another driver.
She was rushed to a nearby hospital and then airlifted to the nearest trauma center but was later pronounced dead. Her driver and the driver of the other vehicle suffered only minor injuries. The Shawano Police Department reports that alcohol and drugs did not play a part in this accident.
Our deepest condolences go out to the woman’s family and friends.
