by Administrator 23. August 2010 05:45

A firefighter and paramedic from Trevor was killed at 2:57 AM Saturday in a single-vehicle crash when the truck he was driving struck a utility pole in Salem on the 12200 block of 204th Avenue (Highway B).

Kenosha County Sheriff's Department Deputies responded to reports of the crash and reported that the man's pickup truck rolled over and struck a utility pole. The pole was broken in two and had fallen on the truck. Eventually, Lake County Sheriff's Deputies took over the case, as it occurred just over state lines.

Authorities do not believe that drugs or alcohol were involved in this tragic accident.

Salmonella Outbreak Linked to Kenosha Restaurant

by Administrator 27. July 2010 00:27

The Journal Times reports that 2 Racine County residents have fallen ill with salmonella. This marks 28 people who now are confirmed for the infection. The salmonella outbreak is linked to a Kenosha restaurant.

Some of the patrons have decided to sue for damages, including reimbursements for their hospital bills. According to the Journal-Times, "That includes Tanja Dzinovic, a Pleasant Prairie woman who last week sued the owners of the Baker Street Restaurant & Pub, 6208 Green Bay Road."

So far, there has been no luck in connecting the foodborne illness outbreak to any particular food. The health department forced the resaurant to close, but it has since reopened.

More Trouble for Tylenol After Recalls

by Administrator 21. July 2010 00:54

The Phildelphia Inquirer reports that Tylenol is now facing a grand jury investigation into catalysts that spurred the recent recalls. Tylenol's company McNeil Consumer Healthcare is owned by Johnson and Johnson. They made the announcement of the investigation. Many of Tylenol's plants have been questionable, but the most recent, Fort Washington plant is the one under scrutiny at the moment.

According to The Philadelphia Inquirer, "Among the problems highlighted by inspectors were shortcomings in training, improperly maintained equipment, lack of adequate controls governing product quality and strength, and failure to follow up on complaints." After this investigation, the plant was shut down and several products were recalled. The company has had six recalls since September.

Now the company is facing financial woes. McNeil plans to lose 300 employees before its plant reopens next year.

Is buzzed driving drunk driving?

by Administrator 19. February 2010 06:38

Numerous anti-drinking and driving campaigns have claimed that driving while "buzzed" is the same as driving while drunk. While this claim is a matter of semantics, the truth is that any driving while under the influence of alcohol over the legal limit is considered drunk driving.

To prevent drunk driving accidents, individuals should take one of the following steps. First, whenever they plan on drinking in groups, they should assign one individual to be a designated driver. Second, if there is not a designated driver, then individuals under the influence should use public transportation or taxis.

Apparently the driver was drunk when the accident occurred, and authorities believe his intoxication may have contributed to the driver losing control of the car. When medical officials arrived to the scene, the driver and two passengers were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
