Family of Dead Teen Reaches Settlement with Portage County

by Administrator 9. December 2008 10:12
STEVENS POINT, Wi. - The family of a car crash victim settled its wrongful death lawsuit against Portage County.  The family's 18-year-old daughter was killed in 2007 during an automobile collision with a now-retired Portage County Sheriff's Department deputy. The Erickson family settled with Wisconsin County Mutual Insurance for approximately $366,000, according to the county's deputy corporation counsel.  The teen was killed in a three-car collision at the intersection of Nebel and Division streets in Stevens Point. As described by the deputy counsel, the Ericksons' attorney and the insurance company reached a settlement in exchange for dismissal of the lawsuit. In the wrongful death suit, the girl's parents were seeking $300,000 separately or $600,000 together, plus an additional $50,000 for each parent.  The suit alleged that the sheriff's department did not have a driving policy in place that could have prevented the crash and around $16,000 in funeral expenses. The teen's car was hit by a sergeant responding to a call in Plover, driving at excessive speeds.  The third driver involved in the crash was treated for minor injuries. The sergeant pleaded no contest to failure to drive under sage and appropriate condistions as the operator of an emergency vehicle and failure to ober a traffic signal.  A felony charge of reckless homicide by negligent operation of a vehicle was dropped. If someone you love has lost their life to someone reckless behavior, or an institution's failure to prevent that behavior, you have the right to seek damages for you losses.  Contact the Kenosha wrongful death lawyers of Habush, Habush, & Rottier at 866.499.4700 to speak with an attorney today.

Child Dead After Left in SUV by Daycare Driver

by Administrator 29. July 2008 09:07
Milwaukee- A four month old boy was found dead inside the day care SUV that picked him up last Thursday morning.  The driver of the Kuddle Kare Day Kare vehicle has been called in the state district attorney's office for questioning.  Police are still deciding whether to file charges against the woman who picked up the baby at 9:15 in the morning. Another employee noticed the infant in the vehicle after 3 in the afternoon and called 911.  The boy was found dead at the scene. The day care received citations last week for "premises not in good condition."  It was also cited in March for having unqualified workers.  A spokesperson for the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services said the department has suspended Kuddle Kare's license and will revoke it.  The day care will remain closed until the police and department have finished investigating. If your child has been a victim of day care negligence, contact the Kenosha Day Care Negligence lawyers of Habush, Habush and Rottier S.C. at 1-866-499-4700 to discuss your case and legal options.
