The two missing American passengers on the Costa Concordia cruise ship have been positively identified an elderly couple from Minnesota. They were among the five bodies recovered last month and were the only American casualties.

The three other bodies were also positively identified as a missing German couple and an Italian crewman. Thirty-two people died when the luxury liner capsized off the Tuscan coast in January after it hit a reef. Two people are still missing and are presumed dead.

Captain Francesco Schettino is still under house arrest as he is being investigated on allegations of manslaughter and abandoning the ship before all 4,200 passengers and crew members were evacuated.

Widow wins settlement with US government

Posted on Tuesday, November 1st, 2011 at 3:59 pm

The widow of a man who died in the 2001 anthrax attacks has been awarded a settlement from the U.S. government in her wrongful death lawsuit.

Her husband was a tabloid photography editor and was the first of five to die after anthrax-laced letters were sent to government officials and media outlets. She filed the lawsuit in 2003, claiming the government was negligent in securing the anthrax disease at a military laboratory. Dr. Bruce Ivins, an Army scientist, is believed to be the man behind the attacks.

The woman was originally demanding $50 million in economic damages. However, the details of the settlement have been given.
