Canada – The City of Toronto is facing a $300 million class action lawsuit from a group of residents who live near the site of a large propane explosion. The suit claims the city was negligent in allowing gas plants to operate in a residential area.
The suit comes after an explosion occurred at the Sunrise Propane Industrial Gases plant over the weekend, damaging several homes. The plaintiffs hope to recover damages for the cost of repairing their homes as well as emotional distress.
The litigation could bring on policy changes regarding the construction and placement of propane facilites in residential areas. The plaintiffs’ attorney hopes that all levels of government will take notice.
