MILWAUKEE – The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel released a report indicating that injuries and deaths arising from nursing home neglect and negligence are on the rise in Wisconsin.
According to the report’s findings health care violations that put patients in jeopardy or resulted in harm spiked 34% since 2005 and resulted in injuries to at least 359 elderly or disabled people.
Also alarming is the amount of Wisconsin nursing homes cited repeatedly for serious violations who, in spite of assuring regulators they are correcting problems, continue to have new ones surface.
Another significant problem is a high worker turnover rate. The Sentinel reported one case with a nursing staff turnover rate as high as 275% last year while simultaneously leading the state in serious citations.
