A recall of chives was recently issued by the FDA after it was found that the chives were contaminated with the bacteria Listeria. The chives were produced by Goodness Gardens Inc., a company located in New Hampton, New York.
The bacteria was found in a routine inspection of the chives after they were distributed to several grocery stores in states throughout the country. The chives were distributed on May 6 in plastic bags with twist ties. No illnesses caused by the contaminated chives have been reported.
Listeria is a type of bacteria that can cause abdominal cramps, diarrhea, and fever. The ingestion of Listeria is especially dangerous for children, the elderly, and people with weakened immune systems.
