An Oregon family is suing Cargill Inc., a meat processing company, after their 10 month-old daughter was hospitalized after eating Salmonella-contaminated turkey. Cargill has recalled over 36 million pounds of fresh and frozen turkey products since August 3rd. This is the first lawsuit since the recall.
This strain of Salmonella has been linked to over a 100 illnesses in 30 states and one death in California. The family is suing for an undisclosed amount of money for pain and suffering, medical costs,
emotional distress and the parents' lost wages.
Cargill Inc. has stated that it is doing everything it can to improve food safety and stop bacteria development.
