A new listeria outbreak in cantaloupe has claimed the lives of over a dozen people in eighteen states. 72 individuals are confirmed to have contracted listeriosis from the listeria-contaminated fruit grown at Jensen Farms in Colorado, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
The CDC is calling it the worst outbreak in a decade. Experts expect the numbers to rise since it can take up to two months for listeriosis to develop in the body. Several families have filed lawsuits against Jensen Farms and the grocery stores they were purchased from. Symptoms of listeriosis includes fever, body aches, confusion, vomiting, and neck stiffness.
