An Iowa family has filed a lawsuit against a state hospital after a mother and her newborn son were seriously injured. In February 2008, the woman arrived at the hospital in active labor but did not go into surgery for a Caesarean section until almost nine hours later.
The child was born with a skull deformity, subdural hemorrhages, and a partial skull fracture. The mother suffered a lacerated bladder which later became infected, causing a pelvic abscess, wound separation, and bowel obstruction.
The mother and her lawyer are suing the hospital for medical negligence for failing to safely deliver the infant and delaying the mother’s operation.
