A seven year-old Tomah boy came home this week after spending four days in the hospital following a grisly pit bull attack. The boy was riding his new bicycle in the driveway when a stray pit bull suddenly attacked him.
A friend of the boy alerted his mother, who found him a pool of blood. She says she kicked the dog and shielded her son from the animal. An ambulance took him to Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center.
The young boy required more than 100 stitches and staples on his head, arms, and neck and doctors were forced to reconstruct one of his ears. The dog has been euthanized.
