Tips for avoiding deer accidents this Fall

Posted under Kenosha car accident attorney

The months of October and November are mating season for deer, meaning their activity will increase drastically. With this increase in deer activity comes more car accidents involving these animals. Last year, more than 18,000 deer accidents were reported by Wisconsin law enforcement officials.

To combat the staggeringly high rate of deer accidents, the Wisconsin Department of Transportation is providing information on how to avoid hitting deer. Some of these tips include:

  • Avoiding all distractions while driving.
  • If a deer is in your path, hit your brakes. The deer will not move out of the way and swerving puts you in danger.
  • If a deer looks like it will run into the path, honk your horn to frighten it back into the woods.

Deer are most active at dusk and dawn, so if you regularly drive during those times, be especially alert.

The car accident lawyers of Habush Habush & Rottier S.C. ®  urge all drivers to exercise caution to avoid any injuries that may result from a deer collision.
